SUMMER IN THE CITY
EACH MONTH, GLOOBLES SHARES THEIR FAVOURITE TIPS. THIS MONTH IS ALL ABOUT SUMMER TIPS IN THE CITY.
Summer in Amsterdam brings a fresh rhythm to the city’s pulse. The days are longer, the skies are brighter, and with that, the canal-side streets are filled with apéro-drinking locals, clusters of friends picnicking in one of the many local parks, and terraces humming with a constant thrum of chitter-chatter. This is a round-up of the best summer addresses to soak up the sun in the city.

RIJKSMUSEUM GARDEN
MUSEUMPLEIN, AMSTERDAM SOUTH
For those long, warmer days, a museum may not spring to mind. Though in Amsterdam’s acclaimed Rijksmuseum, the gardens open for the summer season with an outdoor exhibition dedicated to the most influential Dutch sculptor of the 20th century, Carel Visser. Visser’s works are rarely viewed together, so the roster of his iconic sculptures curated amongst the flower-filled patches promises to be worth a visit. Or two.

OLAFBROOD
DAPPERSTRAAT, AMSTERDAM EAST
What started as a sourdough hobby project turned into a permanent address in Amsterdam’s Dappermarkt. And it’s fast becoming Oost’s neighbourhood baker. Crispy baguette batons are baked alongside traditional rye boules, and cinnamon rolls are served sticky and sweet with golden, melted butter. Head for a lunchtime sandwich special and wander over to Oosterpark for the ideal summertime picnic.

CAFÉ RESTAURANT MEYER
AMSTELVELD, CENTRUM
Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between, Meyer is a no-fuss, Amstelveld hangout. The food is hearty yet simple: fresh salads are the lunchtime staple, replaced by lemon ricotta ravioli with a crunchy pistachio pangrattato in the evening. Though the real highlight is the large terrace spilling with fellow ‘Dammers, which gets especially crowded in time for cocktail sundowners.
